I didn’t need a new cable. My Fender and GC Elite cables were working fine. I heard and read about the capacitance of these cables. I read about what makes a good cable for an instrument but the capacitance argument ‘for’ these cables just raised my curiosity enough. I play through Marshalls, Suhrs, Friedman, and a Fender amp. I have half a dozen Gibsons and the same for Fender. I love articulate pickups like Throbaks, even when crunchy. I thought I was squared away.
I got this cable delivered, played my usual setup to get a benchmark imprint for my ear. Quickly, I plugged the Runway Audio cable in and played the same minute or two of Black Dog expecting to honestly hear the same thing (perhaps a little difference). I expected the audible difference to be 95 percent hype.
It was not hype. Wow! I plugged it into a Marshall DSL40Cr workhorse amp and the clarity was grin making!
I returned the played back through my old $40 fender cable then again switched—- it’s a big difference! The clarity of each note touched just shines. It is brighter as well but not artificially brighter. It just sounds like someone pulled the towel off your amp. I was so pleased that I bought a 15 ft section to replace my cable from the pedalboard into the amp as well. Again, you really can hear the difference! It is no ‘maybe’ quality, it’s clearer with no mud at all.
I did notice that the mids are less than my other cables slightly. But it’s easily balanced by a small bump in the amp mid dial. I realized that I had all of these nice instruments and pedals but they were not blossoming as much as they could. I’m sold. I’ll buy another 20 ft just to have.
